I’m a firm believer than some recipes are really just meant to be simple. Bananas, milk, and ice cream, into a blender. Bam – you’re done.

I actually created this recipe because one day I started to make my strawberry banana milkshake and realized someone had eaten all the strawberries. It’s incredibly easy and so, so delicious!

While some banana milkshake recipes call for sugar, I find that the milkshake is sweet enough from just the banana and the ice cream so I opted out of adding sugar to this recipe.

By the way, if you love milkshakes, you have to try my nutella milkshake too!

Ingredient Notes

  • Milk: I tested this milkshake with regular dairy milk as well as dairy free milk – both ways work great!
  • Ice Cream: High quality vanilla ice cream is best, since there isn’t any added vanilla extract in this recipe. You can always add a splash of vanilla if you’d like a stronger flavor though! Dairy free vanilla ice cream works perfectly too.
  • Bananas: When testing this recipe, I found that overripe bananas have the strongest banana flavor. Fresh or frozen works fine, but frozen will make your milkshake thicker and creamier.

  • You can use a high power blender or a food processor for this recipe. Cutting the banana into smaller pieces will make the blending process faster!

3 Ingredient Banana Shake

This creamy banana shake couldn't be easier to make! It's naturally flavored and ready in under 5 minutes. There's truly nothing more refreshing and nostalgic than a banana milkshake.

Ingredients

  • 1 large banana, (fresh or frozen)
  • ½ cup milk, (regular or vegan)
  • 1 cup vanilla ice cream or vanilla frozen yogurt, (regular or vegan)

Optional

  • whipped cream , (regular or vegan)

Instructions

  • This recipe makes 2 milkshakes. If making for one, divide the ingredients in half. Add ice cream, diced banana, and milk to a blender then blend until smooth. Depending on your blender, you may need to add more milk if the milkshake seems too thick. You can also slice the banana into smaller pieces if you don't have a high powered blender.
  • Divide the milkshake between two glasses. Top with whipped cream or another scoop of ice cream if desired, and enjoy!

Notes

MILK: If the milkshake seems too thick, slowly add more milk until your desired consistency is reached.
The milkshake will be sweeter if you use sweetened vegan milk instead of unsweetened.
FROZEN OR FRESH FRUIT: Frozen banana will make the milkshake thicker, more like a smoothie consistency.
Blender: Use a high powdered blender if possible, to create a smooth consistency.
Storage: This milkshake is best enjoyed fresh!
