These blue cookie monster cookies are loaded with chocolate chips, cookie pieces, and stuffed with an Oreo in the centre! They’re fun to make for both adults and kids alike!

If I were a sesame street character, I would absolutely be the cookie monster. As you can tell by the name of the blog, I am obsessed with cookies (give me peanut butter cookies or chocolate chip cookies any day).
So these cookie monster cookies are what I like to think an authentic cookie monster recipe from the monster himself would look like.

“These were the best cookies of this type that I’ve ever made. They turned out soft and very delicious. I added some sugar eyeballs. My kids and my granddaughter loved them.”

Ingredient Notes

- Butter: This recipe has been tested with regular butter and dairy free butter – both work great!
- Blue Food Coloring: I use the liquid kind, but you can use any kind you’d like. Amount needed will vary, so just keep adding until you achieve the desired color you’d like. I also recommend testing out your food coloring if it’s a brand you’ve never tried – I tested one grocery store brand and the cookies were more green than blue!
- Chocolate Chip Cookies: If you are not dairy free, you can use regular Chips Ahoy or mini Chips Ahoy. In some countries, the mini Chips Ahoy don’t contain milk (always check the packaging if you’re allergic!), or you can use dairy free mini chocolate chip cookies.
How To Make These Cookies

Beat butter and sugars together.

Add in rest of the wet ingredients and watch the dough turn blue!

Add in your dry ingredients, then all the mix-ins!

Assemble the cookies.

Bake!
TikTok Cookies Variation
If you want to make these cookies the way they make them in the viral Tiktok video, leave out the Oreos and chocolate chip cookies in the dough.
Follow the step by step instructions as written, then instead of placing a whole Oreo into the dough, place 2-3 pieces of milk or semisweet chocolate on top of the first ball of dough.
Cover the chocolate with more dough then bake and enjoy!

Expert Tips
- Properly measure your flour – If you over-measure your flour, the cookie dough and the cookies will be too dry and crumbly. I always recommend weighing it with a kitchen scale or using the scoop and level method.
- Cover the Oreo cookie completely – Be sure to use enough dough that the Oreo is completely covered.
- Do not over-bake! Because of the color of the cookies, it can be hard to tell when the cookies are ready. You don’t want to let them get golden brown – if they are golden brown they are over-baked and won’t be as soft! It’s better to under-bake than over-bake in my opinion, so start checking on them early. You can always test one cookie before-hand as well.

Cookie Monster Cookies
Ingredients
- ⅔ cup (140 g) butter, softened, (regular or vegan)
- ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
- ½ cup (100 g) light brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
- ¼-½ teaspoon blue food coloring
- 2 cup + 2 Tablespoons (265 g) all-purpose flour, (SEE NOTES)
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- ¾ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼-½ cup chocolate chips (a mix of semisweet chocoalte chips and white chocolate chips), (regular or vegan)
- ⅓ cup mini chocolate chip cookies (like Chips Ahoy or Enjoy Life mini cookies), (SEE NOTES)
- 14 Oreo cookies
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside. Chop up 3-4 of the Oreos and the mini chocolate chip cookies, then set aside. (Leave 10 of the Oreos whole to stuff in the cookies).
- In the bowl of a handheld mixer or standing mixer with the paddle attachment, beat the butter and sugars together until light and fluffy (about 1-2 minutes). Mix in the egg, food coloring, and vanilla extract.
- Add in the flour, salt, and baking soda, and mix until just combined (don't over-mix). Fold in the chocolate chips, chopped Oreos, and chopped mini chocolate chip cookies.
- Scoop 10 heaping tablespoons of dough onto each baking sheet. They should be fairly big (these are monster sized cookies!). Press a whole Oreo cookie slightly into half the balls of dough, then top them with another heaping Tablespoon of dough to cover the Oreo completely. Then bake 5 assembled cookies on each baking sheet. The cookies will weigh around 3 oz once assembled.
- Bake the cookies one tray at a time in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, until edges and top look set. Let cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to finish cooling.

What about if you would make this into a cookie bar type thing and made it in a large pan?
Hi Kaity! I haven’t tested that out so I can’t say for sure how it would work, but please let me know how it goes if you decide to try it!
These were amazing!! But my cookies didn’t expand like normal cookies, I think I added to much cookies
I’m so glad you like them! The cookies will weigh around 3 oz once assembled!
Hi! i was wondering, if you wanted to make the cookies normal sized (not super big) for a bake sale, would you just halve the recipe? Thanks!
You can just make smaller balls of dough, around 3/4 Tbsp instead of a heaping Tablespoon. You may need to use a mini Oreo inside or cut an Oreo in half as a whole Oreo might not fit!
Hi! I want to freeze the cookies ahead of time to bake them later this week, but I’m concerned that the Oreo cookie and other cookies in the dough will get soggy. Have you had any problems with this? Thank you! 🙂
Hi Kayla! They shouldn’t be soggy. I would just be sure to thaw first and then add the outside toppings right before baking. Enjoy!
These turned out great! We pressed two candy eyes into them right out of the oven. I also used about 5tsp of butterfly pea flower powder instead of blue food coloring and they’re still blue and it didn’t affect the taste.
Wondering if I can freeze the dough or if they should be baked before freezing?
Freezing the dough should work! Just add a couple extra minutes if baking from frozen.
This is the most bussin’ of all bussin’ things on the whole entire world:)
I really enjoyed these and so did my family. I did do a few substitutions as I wanted to use stuff that I had on hand, so marshmallows and mini chocolate chips work great in this too !! I also added more marshmallows and crushed oreos on top!! Totally recommend 🫶
Can you chill or do they need to be cooked immediately after preparing the dough?
They are fine to chill, but let them come to room temp for a bit after or else they won’t spread as much.
Hey, I made this recipe and it turned out to be so good and delicious. But I want to sell them at school but I dont know how much I should sell them for. Should it be 6 dollars since they are big in size?
I’m so happy to hear you loved the recipe, and how fun that you want to sell them at school! 😊 Pricing can depend on a bunch of things like how much your ingredients cost, how big the cookies are, and what other snacks at school usually go for.It might be fun to ask your friends what they’d be willing to pay or try a little “taste test” sale to see what feels fair for everyone!
Why does it say to scoop ten cookies onto each baking sheet if this only makes ten cookies?
These cookies are larger than your standard cookie, so each ball of dough is around 2 Tablespoons. You scoop one tablespoon of dough, add the Oreo inside, and then it gets topped with another tablespoon of dough. Hope this helps!
Made the cookies haven’t eaten them yet but the instructions were very clear for someone who doesn’t bake often. but the only thing is the sugar candy eyes kind of melted maybe i should have put them in halfway instead of at the start.
Hi Hailey! Thank you for trying out the recipe and leaving a comment 🌟
Press the candy eyeballs into the dough – right after they come out of the oven.
You can also adhere the eyes on with a bit of melted chocolate.
Good Luck!
Was really good but would definitely recommend using a little less salt or unsalted butter I accidentally used salted butter and it turned out really salty other then that tho was 5 stars and will definitely be making these again ^_^
