If you love banana bread, then you have to try these chocolate chip banana bars! Think super soft and fluffy banana bread, but in bar form and packed with chocolate chips. Plus, you only need 9 simple ingredients!

You know I’ve always got some over-ripe bananas on my kitchen counter, and I love using them to make banana pecan muffins or banana bread! But last week I decided I needed to try a banana bread bars recipe, and here we are!
These super soft and moist banana bread bars are loaded up with chocolate chips and I can’t get enough of them. Plus, you can easily make them dairy-free!
Why You’ll Love These Chocolate Chip Banana Bars
- You only need 9 pantry ingredients to make these chocolate chip banana bars!
- You can make them dairy-free, so they’re perfect if you have food allergies.
- No need for a handheld mixer or stand mixer, all you need is one bowl and a whisk.
- These banana bread bars are perfect if you have overripe bananas on your counter.
Ingredients Needed

- Butter: you can use regular butter or dairy-free butter.
- Chocolate Chips: feel free to use mini chocolate chips or regular semisweet chocolate chips. If you’re dairy-free, you can use non-dairy chocolate chips.
- Flour: I’m using all-purpose flour, but you can swap it out for white whole wheat or whole wheat flour.
- Bananas: make sure you’re using ripe bananas with lots of freckles and brown spots!
Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°Fahrenheit. Grease and line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper and set aside.
Step 2: Measure out the butter and place it in a medium microwave-safe bowl, microwaving until melted. Whisk in the egg and vanilla extract, then the white sugar.

Step 3: Mash the bananas with a fork and add them to the other wet ingredients.

Step 6: Pour the banana bread batter into your prepared pan and sprinkle over extra mini chocolate chips on top.
Step 7: Bake in the preheated oven for 17-23 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean. Let cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing up.

Expert Tips
- I always recommend weighing out your flour with a kitchen scale! It’s so easy to add too much flour if you use measuring cups, and your banana bars will end up dry and dense.
- If you don’t have a kitchen scale, make sure to use the scoop and level method to measure your flour.
- If you want even more chocolate flavor, top the banana bread bars with my favorite chocolate frosting.
- You can use an equal amount of white whole wheat flour or whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour! It might slightly change the texture of the bars though.
Storage Instructions
Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Freeze for up to 3 months in a freezer bag. Let thaw at room temperature or defrost in the microwave before enjoying.
