This homemade apple crumble with no oats is a yummy cozy classic that is perfect for fall. It's nostalgic, warm-spiced, and so easy to make. It can be made with regular dairy butter or dairy free!
Add the chopped apples into the 1.5 quart baking dish you will use for baking (or a large bowl if preferred). Add brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. Toss until evenly coated. If using a bowl, transfer the mixture to your baking dish.
Topping
In a medium bowl, add flour, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and butter. Use your hands, a fork, or a pastry cutter to mix everything together until it's fully combined.
Sprinkle the crisp mixture evenly over top of the apples. Bake for 30-40 minutes, until the top is a light golden brown.
Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream (dairy free or regular). Enjoy!
Notes
Apples: any variety works, but a firm, crisp apple is better than a soft mushy one like Red Delicious. Keep in mind that using a tart apple (like Granny Smith), will give you a less sweet apple crumble than a sweeter apple will.Store covered in the fridge (up to 5 days) or at room temperature (up to 4 days).
