Equipment

Ingredients

  • 10 oz dairy free cream cheese
  • ¾ cup dairy free butter, softened
  • ¾ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • teaspoon salt
  • 4-5 cups powdered sugar (icing sugar)
  • 6 Tablespoons cornstarch

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl or the bowl of a standing mixer, add the cream cheese and butter and beat until fully combined.
  • Mix in the salt and vanilla extract.
  • Add in the cornstarch and powdered sugar slowly until the desired consistency is reach. Start with the lower amount of powdered sugar and add more as needed.
  • Cover the bowl and store the frosting in the fridge until ready to use. Keeping the frosting refrigerated for 2-4 hours at least before using it will make it firmer and easier to work with.

Notes

Note: I highly recommend using a kitchen scale to weigh your dry ingredients. Metric measurements are found above under the "Metric" tab.
Makes about 3½ cups of dairy free cream cheese frosting, or enough to frost a 3 layer cake or 24 cupcakes.
Tips: I've had the best results with a dairy free cream cheese such as  Violife, Tofutti, or Vitalife
For an 8x8 pan of brownies, halve the recipe (there will be a little bit leftover).
