Ingredients

  • ¾ cup butter, softened (regular or vegan)
  • ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1¾-2 cup powdered sugar (icing sugar)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  • In the bowl of a standing mixer or handheld mixer, beat butter, vanilla extract, and spices.
  • Slowly add in ¼ cup of powdered sugar at a time until it reaches your desired consistency.
  • If the buttercream is too thick, you can add ½ tablespoon of milk of choice at a time, thinning it out as much as you'd like. If buttercream is too thin, add in more powdered sugar ¼ cup at a time.
  • Use it to frost your favorite cakes and cupcakes!

Notes

This recipe makes enough frosting for a single layer 8x8 or 9x9 cake or 12 cupcakes. Adjust quantities as needed for larger cakes or more cupcakes.
Storage and Freezing Instructions:
Buttercream can be store in the fridge for up to 2 days, or freeze in an airtight container for up to 2 months. Thaw it in the fridge then mix it up using a handheld or standing mixer before using it.
